Press Release: Turkeys for DURM Fundraiser to provide 100 turkeys for needy families

DURHAM, NC – TURKEYS FOR DURM is a labor of love fundraiser with the goal of providing 100 turkeys for needy families in the Triangle area of North Carolina to help them have a festive Thanksgiving holiday. Turkeys for DURM has partnered with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for distribution to at least 100 families.
Now through November 19, monetary contributions can be made online at www.turkeysfordurm.com. Additionally, checks made payable to “Turkeys for DURM” can be delivered to local branches of Wells Fargo bank. Any amount is appreciated.
On Friday, November 22, volunteers will use the monetary donations collected to purchase turkeys from local grocery stores and deliver them to the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
A collection of frozen turkeys will also take place at the CCB Plaza on November 22 from 11am until 4pm. Due to food safety guidelines and precautions, donations of frozen turkeys can only be accepted on November 22.

The Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves six counties in central North Carolina. They are Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, Person and Vance counties. Last year over 6.2 million pounds of food was distributed to 172 agencies in those counties. In the counties served by the Durham branch, over 96,000 individuals are at risk of hunger: 30,000 are children and over 6% are 65 years and over.
